Book One of the 'It's You' duet knocked my socks off! I'm officially dying for Book Two. I wasn't sure what to expect from Katy Regnery in the paranormal department, but I'm so thrilled she jumped into this genre. I was immediately engaged in this story. The pull was reminiscent of a couple other paranormal series that I love, engaging me into a realm I love, and yet grabbing me in its own special and unique way. My feelings for this story then grew and grew. I didn't want to put this book down.
No spoilers here. But going off the book summary alone, we know that it's been 20 years since Darcy and Jack's kiss in high school. That alone was fascinating to see Darcy and Jack reconnect. Then throw in a crazy bunch of non-human stuff, and watching Darcy and Jack try to navigate any possible relationship amidst the preconceived impossible amped up their story ten-fold. I completely loved Jack and Darcy. I could feel their connection through the pages. But I also loved that there were no easy fixes to their obstacles. There is something engagingly exciting about a couple being forced to face incredible odds against them. The struggle is tangible. But I only had to meet Jack and Darcy once to know I would be cheering for them the entire way.
The world Katy has built here is also quite fascinating. I loved the lore of this world. As the story progressed, I especially loved getting more and more bits and pieces of this 'other' world. Along with the normal and paranormal worlds, we also get some fascinating side characters who have their own crazy side stories. I mean, really, there's a bit of a soap opera going on here. And I loved it! There are so many engaging layers to not only Jack and Darcy's main story, but the side stories as well.
I also have to give a shout-out to some great twists and turns here. I loved the surprises. There was one moment when I was reading where I literally shouted out loud in surprise, completely take aback to something that happened. It was one of those did-that-really-happen moments. Then on second glance, it was an oh-yeah-that-totally-happened moment. And let me tell you, the moment I am referring to was awesome. I had to pick my jaw off the floor for that one.
Okay, I need Book Two now. I'm so excited to get back into this story!!
