Review: Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti

Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti
(Blood Brothers #2)
May 16, 2017
Genre: Romantic Suspense 18+
Contains: language, explicit sex, serial killer

Lethal Lies is the second book in New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti's breathtaking romantic suspense series, Blood Brothers.

A deadly secret can't stay buried forever . . .

Revenge. It's the only thing that will help Anya Best sleep at night. The serial killer who murdered her sister is on the loose, and Anya will stop at nothing to put him behind bars-even use herself as bait to lure him out of hiding. But she can't do this alone.

Private investigator Heath Jones's job is to bring bastards to justice. This time it's personal. He knew the Copper Killer's latest victim so when her sister asks for his help, he's all in. But when Anya uses the media to taunt the killer, she exposes Heath's identity, putting them both in jeopardy. Now, secrets buried long ago are coming to light and the forces determined to destroy him are watching Heath's every move, waiting to exact their own revenge. And they'll use anything and anyone to get to Heath.

'Lethal Lies' was an exciting follow-up to 'Deadly Silence.' The brothers are still on the hunt for the Copper Killer, but with the murder of Anya's FBI agent sister, things have heated up even more. After a media stunt, Anya has attached herself to Heath, and now both are being watched closely, not only by the police, but by the serial killer and Heath's past. But what starts as bait and strategy to catch the killer, turns into so much more for Heath and Anya.

What an exciting, thrill-ride! I mean, this isn't just one mystery to solve. This is catching a serial killer, avoiding the sadistic past who are trying to catch or kill you, and facing the risk of falling in love. And I loved being a part of the investigation. I didn't know who to trust. I felt stressed right alongside the characters. I didn't want to put this book down. Zanetti did a wonderful job keeping the suspense going until the very end.

I also loved Heath and Anya. Heath was this fascinating combination of sensitive and brutal. I mean, the guy rescues wounded animals. Gotta love that! But with his enemies, or threats to the ones he loves, he is an immovable wall. Anya was the right match for Heath. She captured his sensitive side, yet challenged his control and trust. She was gentle, yet strong and persistent, and I was so thankful she didn't fall into the stupid damsel-in-distress role. Putting these two together what the right combo.

These "brothers" are just what you'd want in a family - pure love and dedication. I cannot wait for Denver's story!

New Release, Review & Giveaway: Dating-ish by Penny Reid

Dating-ish by Penny Reid
May 16, 2017
304 pages
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Contains: sex, language

There are three things you need to know about Marie Harris:
1) She’s fed up with online dating,
2) She’s so fed up, she’s willing to forego the annoyance and consider more creative alternatives, and
3) She knows how to knit.

After the most bizarre and irritating first date in the history of human kind, Marie is looking for an alternative to men. With the help of her friends, she quickly identifies a few possibilities:

Need a cuddle? Use a professional cuddler. Need affirmation? Get yourself a life coach. Need an orgasm? Try orgasm meditation! Why does she need the hassle of a romantic partner when she can meet all her needs with paid services?
But then her irritating date resurfaces. And he’s not at all the person she thought he was. And he suggests a different—and crazier—solution to her dilemma . . .
As everyone knows (or will soon come to realize), traditional relations between humans are a thing of the past. Robots are our future. And if robots are our future, then why do we need other people at all?

I must be honest. I was so nervous about this book. I love that Penny Reid takes risks and writes about current things, intelligent characters, weird notions. That's what drew me to her stories. They are smart, funny, heartfelt, and genuine. But I also never know what to expect. So when I read that Marie would be exploring the notion of not needing a significant other and getting all her needs met by professionals, robots, etc, I had no idea what the outcome would be. Truly, this story could have gone in any direction. I could have loved it. I could have hated it.

Fortunately, I loved it!!

Now the journey was not easy. My heart hurt for Marie in the beginning. My heart just poured out its heartache and sympathy for Marie and her dating struggles. Those first few chapters, and Matt's idiocy, made me ache. Made me sad. I was like, "Penny Reid, make it better!" But truly, she nailed Marie's feelings. No superficiality here. And then the journey to finding an alternative to men, or significant others, took me on a ride that I truly appreciated. This could have easily been a one-dimensional joke, but instead it explored so many depths, even aspects I hadn't considered, and I really respected the journey.

But the journey was also fun and sweet and sexy and brought the zings. You see, Marie isn't actually alone in this explorative journey. There's this hot scientist named Matt who was along for the ride. They were really a fascinating couple, who wasn't actually a couple. I mean, we can all see how perfect they are for each other, but that would make this journey way too simple. So instead we get this beautiful slow-burn, partnership to friendship to more. We get heart-breaking misunderstandings and heartfelt, tender gestures. We have two people mending their hearts and exploring vulnerablity and want and love.

By the end, I was completely in love with Marie and Matt, and had mad respect for the depth of exploration Penny Reid brought to this story, even when it made me sad and uncomfortable, because the beautiful, sexy, sweet, yummy parts made up for everything else. Plus, we get the amazing 'Knitting' gang and their just as amazing male counterparts. I loved the tie-ins to the friendships, making this story all the better. This was a beautiful reluctant romance with a side of unconditional friendships. Marie and Matt stole my heart.

Cover Reveal: The Foxe and the Hound by RS Grey

We are so excited to reveal the gorgeous cover of R.S. Grey's next release, THE FOXE & THE HOUND! This romantic comedy releases June 1st. See the cover and find out more about THE FOXE & THE HOUND below!

About THE FOXE & THE HOUND

When your life is a hot mess at twenty, it’s cute. At twenty-seven…well, not so much.
It’s just that my lofty dreams—making it as a real estate agent, paying rent on time, showering daily—have stayed just that: dreams. Oh, and love? I’ve decided love might be a little ambitious for me at the moment. Instead, I’ve settled for the two guys who will never leave me: Ben & Jerry.

That is, until Dr. Adam Foxe takes up residence as the town’s new vet.

With his strong jaw, easy confidence, and form-fitting scrubs, it’s not long before every housewife in Hamilton is dragging neglected tomcats in for weekly checkups.

Like everyone else, I’m intrigued. Even after I spoil my chance at a good first impression, he still offers me a proposition I can’t refuse: play his girlfriend at a family function and he’ll hire me as his real estate agent. Welcome to love in the 21st century.

It’s too bad I underestimated Adam’s irresistible charm and the undeniable attraction that burns between us. The day he pins me to the wall and silences me with a kiss, the line between reality and ruse begins to blur. Every teasing touch brings me to my knees. Every kiss promises more.

It looks like my hot mess of a life is about to get a little hotter.
