New Release & Review: The Bohemian and the Businessman by Katy Regnery

The Bohemian and the Businessman
By Katy Regnery
(Blueberry Lane #4, The Story Sisters #1)
April 24, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance 18+
Contains: language, explicit sex

Priscilla Story, the self-proclaimed “wild child” of the straight-laced Story clan, has always had a knack for getting herself trouble. Except this time, her “growing problem” is going to require a Daddy sooner than later…or she can kiss her inheritance good-bye.

Shane Olson, who previously dated Priscilla’s sister, Margaret, isn’t opposed to a marriage of convenience for the sake of furthering his business interests, but Priscilla – with her wild ways – is just about the last woman he’d choose to marry.

In order to make the marriage look convincing, they end up having to spend more time together than they’d originally planned. When rolling stone, Priscilla, who lives by the seat of her muu-muu, and seriously-ambitious Shane, who’s had his whole life planned since he was eleven, start falling for each other, it’s going to take a whole lot of compromise for this Bohemian and her Businessman to find their happily ever after

*This is the first standalone in the Story Sisters series.

Wowzers! I completely fell in love with Priscilla and Shane's story! If you are looking for a break from manwhores and want to fall in love with a spectacular guy, look no further. Shane may very well be my favorite hero of Katy Regnery's.

I wasn't sure about how this story would play out from the synopsis. I mean, we've got Priscilla pregnant and Shane recently dating her sister, and then their plan for a marriage of convenience. There was a lot of room for things to go very wrong in this scenario. But let me tell you, everything went right. The chemistry in the beginning bloomed into a thing of beauty. Priscilla and Shane were absolutely perfect for each other. Priscilla was this beautiful, gentle free spirit and Shane was an absolute gentleman with a fierce protective streak. I loved watching their relationship develop. Their honesty allowed them to be real, to shine a light on their faults, to develop into better versions of themselves, and in that, to be the perfect match for the other. They accepted each other yet also challenged the other to be their better self. And ultimately they were the support, the acceptance, the family, and the home they hadn't even known they needed, but now couldn't live without. Seriously, I loved this story. I didn't want to put it down. And Shane, sweet, wonderful Shane! I just loved him so much! I can't even talk about all the things I loved about Priscilla and Shane because I don't want to spoil it. Sorry, I'm officially rambling. But this story just made me so happy!!

On April 27, THE BOHEMIAN AND THE BUSINESSMAN will be available exclusively on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited!

Novella Review: Avenged by Jay Crownover

Avenged by Jay Crownover
March 21, 2017
110 pages
Genre: Contemporary Romance 18+
Contains: language, explicit sex

New York Times bestselling author Jay Crownover brings heat and heart to Liliana Hart’s MacKenzie family with AVENGED…

Girl meets boy…

On the worst night of her life when she’s decided to take a drastic step that there is no going back from.

Girl is used to sitting by, letting fate deal cruel hand after cruel hand to good people with soft hearts and she’s had enough.

Girl thinks it’s time to fight back against fate and against men who aren’t careful with all the precious things a woman in love has to give him.

Fate shows girl who’s boss and turns her world and plans upside down without breaking a sweat.

Boy meets girl…

On the best night of his life when he’s decided that he’s going to make moves to be the man he was always meant to be instead of the man he was trained and conditioned to be.

Boy is used to a solitary life, quiet in the woods and knowing the only thing that might be looking for him is trouble and trouble is no longer his stock in trade.

Boy thinks it’s time to show trouble who’s boss, even if this trouble has big blue eyes and a body made to make men stupid. Trouble only gets the upper hand if the boy falls prey to its temptation.

Trouble turns the boy’s quiet, serene life sideways without any effort.

Trouble is fun and fate has a wicked sense of humor when it comes to this boy meeting this girl.

'Avenged' was a fun crossover between Crownover's The Point series and The Saints of Denver series. And though it takes place in the Mackenzie World (which I have not read before), you really don't have to have read any of the other books in these series to enjoy this novella.

This is essentially the story of two people who were not "good" people before, and are now on the road up. They've hit bottom. They've decided to make a go at being better people. But that doesn't mean old habits and temptations are not out of reach. And danger lingers. But a chance meeting between these two strangers gives them not only the hope they desperately need, but the love they didn't even know existed. Benny and Echo were intriguing, vulnerable, redemptive, and sexy. This was a fun little novella.

Review: Protector by Leia Stone & ST Bende

Protector by Leia Stone & ST Bende
(Night War Saga #1)
April 21, 2017
Genre: Fantasy
Content: Clean

Love. Honor. Protect.

As an Environmental Studies major, Allie knows the planet is in trouble – a series of natural disasters recently rocked the northern hemisphere, and species across the globe are going extinct. What Allie doesn’t know is that her world's decline is a casualty of an ancient battle called the Night War – the Norse goddess Nott’s crusade to control the weakest of the light realms. And Allie most definitely doesn’t know that her existence is the only thing stopping Nott from dragging the earth into total darkness.

When four gorgeous guys show up claiming to be Allie’s Asgardian protectors, she thinks they’re delusional. And when they order her to hunt down the pieces of an immortal weapon, she’s convinced they’re insane. But when Allie’s attacked, the guys’ crazy stories of demigods and dark elves begin coming together. And Allie’s not sure what scares her more – losing her life to the Goddess of Night . . . or losing her heart to one of her protectors.

Let the hunt begin.

Loved it! I love a good mythology story. And this one wasn't just good. It was great! I was concerned this series would be too similar to Bende's other series (which I love), but fortunately this one had all the great writing and character building I was used to, but was its own special combination of awesome. I'm super excited about this series.

I loved going on this journey with Allie. First of all, she's awesome. She's no doormat, damsel-in-distress. She's strong and tough, yet fun and compassionate. She's got it all. Then she gets thrown into the Norse World, and boom! She keeps getting better.

Let's not forget her protectors. Seriously, I loved these guys. Allie sure hit the jackpot. The camaraderie and love could be felt through the pages. Just remember... Mack Pack. And Tore! This guy could be silently frustrating, but had a heart of gold. I especially loved watching his transition throughout the novel. He won me over.

And it wasn't all training and relationship building. There's plenty of action. These folks are on a mission. A huge mission, in fact. Lives are on the line! I loved the excitement of this novel and the anticipation of all the things to come. Can't wait for book 2 - Defender!

“All the more reason to get you out of town,” Heath said quietly.

She shook her head. “No. I’m staying.” Her words were brave, but her chest hurt. No way could she deal with a serial killer all on her own. She could train every day for the rest of her life and not end up as practiced or as deadly as Heath already was, and she knew it. “I understand you have other cases and people after you. So leave, and I’ll handle this myself.”

“Those are big words, baby,” he said softly.

Her lip quivered, and she bit down on it. “I know. I promised her, Heath. It’s all I have left to give to her.”

He paused, understanding crossing his expression. “Ah, sweetheart. Your sister wouldn’t want that for you.” His voice turned velvety and soft. Soothing.

Anya nodded. “I know. But she was my sister. We shared blood and part of a childhood. She took me trick-or-treating when I was five, and it’s one of my best memories. Then when I needed help as an adult, she didn’t hesitate. She came to me right away, like family. She was the first person I really cared about in far too long, and it hurts like hell that I got her killed.”

He breathed out, the emotion in his eyes deepening.

She swallowed. “I have to do this for her. Either you understand that or you don’t.”

“Why don’t you just let us handle it?”

She pressed her point. “I could, but you need me. I’m the bait.” Inwardly, she winced at the description. That wouldn’t help her to convince him. “Also, here’s the deal. This could be a long op. At some point, you have to leave and deal with whatever is haunting you from your past. When you do, I’ll just challenge him again, and next time you won’t be around to assist.”

“That’s extortion,” Heath said, amusement curving his lip.

She grinned. “Apparently I’m getting quite good at it.”

Heath shook his head. “You’re putting me in an untenable position, baby.”

“No, I’m not.” She shrugged out of his hold. Finally. “I’m not yours to protect, Heath. We’re not together, and we’re not responsible for each other.” The words sliced through her even as she said them. “You’ve been more than clear on that score.”

“There’s something here, Anya. Maybe something real and lasting, if I get everything done I need to do.”

She blinked. “What’s that?”

“The less you know the better. Believe me.”

“What a bunch of bulls--t. Go back to your ‘This is fake’ proclamation,” she all but yelled. “Your position is one of work . . . and this is just work.”

His chin lifted. “You think this is just work?” The tone—low and filled with tension—zinged through her body.

Her legs trembled with the urge to take a step back. “Yes.”

“Want me to prove otherwise?” His eyes darkened to the color of the sky right before midnight hit.

As a threat, as a warning, it was damn good. But she’d gone too far to give in now. “You can’t.” Yeah, she’d just waved a red flag in front of a bull.

He didn’t move a muscle. His focus on her was so absolute, she wanted to squirm. “You’re into challenging dangerous men these days, aren’t you?”

She kept her stance. “You’re not all that dangerous, Heath.”

His smile stole her breath. Then he moved. Faster than she could track, he had her by the armpits and up in the air as he carried her toward the bedroom with such speed that her legs automatically wound around to clasp his rib cage. By the time she sucked in air to protest, her butt was on the bed, and he was flattening himself over her.

She struggled, her body on fire, fighting the urge to laugh out loud.

His mouth crushed hers, and she stilled.

Heat.

Fire.

True danger.

He held nothing back, kissing her hard, pressing her head into the comforter. His tongue worked hers, his powerful body plastered against hers, and his hands dug into her hair to hold her in place. Desire spun so quickly into need she couldn’t breathe, even when he wasn’t controlling her mouth.

She shifted against him, closing her eyes to kiss him back. This was what she’d wanted. All of this.

He nipped her lip, soothing the slight pain with another kiss. Then he traced along her jawline, kissing and nipping, finally reaching her earlobe, where he bit.

She arched against him, letting out a soft sigh.

“Anya.” His fingers tangled in her hair, and erotic pain tingled down her scalp. One of his strong arms slid around her waist and then down. His palm spread across her butt, and he ground her against his hard cock.

Pleasure swamped her, and mini explosions flew through her sex. The idea passed, somewhat fleetingly, that he wasn’t playing. Not at all.

Yet she couldn’t stop herself. Her knees widened, and she rubbed against him. “This feels real,” she whispered.
