Enoch is tested.
His brother is human, the thing he hates. He watches as the brother he knew is stripped away by his love for Clara. He's never hated someone as much as he hated her...but the bond forced him to not only want to protect her, but feel things he never had before.
When a girl needs his help, that split second decision changes his whole world in one instant.
A Devourer's Fate...
I re-read Devour and Consume prior to reading Altered, and I was really glad I did. This was such a great world to get wrapped up in all over again. I got to watch Eli and Clara fall in love all over again. I also got to revisit all the issues that Enoch had with Eli and Clara's relationship. Going into Altered, I found this really helpful. I also got to see how Crane has grown as a writer, as each book has gotten progressively better. With that said, you don't have to re-read Devour and Consume prior to reading Altered. You will be caught up enough with the newest book.
Now Altered itself was great! It was full of action, with twists and turns, and not a dull moment. From the start we get to see what Enoch has been going through since the end of Consume. And it has not been easy. Fay has been dealing with a hefty load of troubles of her own. Then the two meet by fate and the craziness ensues. I loved following along with Enoch and Fay. I loved all the ways we got to know them - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Their histories are not pretty, but together they can find a way to heal and move forward. And both Enoch and Fay were fully redeemed in my eyes.
Along with great character growth, we also have an exciting plot, following over from the ending of Consume. Remember the rebels? Yeah, there's some great stuff happening with them. Now, to be honest, Clara was getting on my last nerve at times. Girlfriend had some issues. Fortunately those issues were eventually addressed. But, seeing Eli and Clara together again was still a plus to this story. And I was completely satisfied with how this book ended (although, like any well-respected book addict, I would always welcome more stories in this world and with these characters.)
Overall, I loved this story. Not only do we get the continuing story of the Devoured world, but we get another sweet love story, which Shelly Crane does so well, adding Enoch and Fay as another one of my favorite couples. Along with the sweetness and the love, we get forgiveness and redemption. And all of this comes in an exciting, page-turning package.
DEVOUR - Book 1
