Synopsis:
Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she'll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry. From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will Marianne be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke.
My Review:

Edenbrooke is a sweet, clean romance set in an Austen-esque setting. Our heroine, Marianne, the second in a set of twin girls, doesn't conform perfectly to high society, and in that she is a fun and interesting character to get to know. She accepts her fate as the second child too easily and is quite oblivious at times, but her fun and carefree spirit is apparent. It's no wonder a boy would fall for her. Phillip was a delight. Though judged too hastily in the beginning by others, I loved getting to know him through Marianne's eyes, but also in spite of Marianne's obliviousness. The bit of mystery surrounding Phillip was intriguing and well timed. And again, I must reiterate, Phillip was a delight. While Phillip and Marianne develop a sweet friendship (which really was adorable), you can't help but root for a sweet romance as well. But there are things going on behind the scenes, and it wouldn't be much of a story without a little well played suspense and obnoxious characters.

Honestly, I enjoyed Edenbrooke quite a lot. But I wish I had not listened to it on audiobook. I hate to be negative, but my initial feelings on the audio narrator were not good. She narrated slowly, over enunciated everything, was excessively breathy, had an disingenuous accent, and a voice for Marianne I would not have chosen. Once I switched listening devices to one I could speed up the narration, I found listening to 1.5 to 2 times speed to be much better and more enjoyable. The voices for the other characters were better. But it was hard to get over my first impression.

Overall, I would recommend Edenbrooke to anyone who likes a clean romance, enchanting characters, and an Austen-esque setting. But I say choose the book, not the audiobook.

Synopsis:
It isn't easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday’s only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past—and hers?
My Review:

Enchanted was a real treat to listen to on audiobook. The narrator, Katherine Kellgren, is fantastic. I'm sure Enchanted in also equally wonderful as a physical book, but I loved listening to the audio rendition.

Enchanted is great for those who enjoy a fairy tale retelling, but in this case it is numerous fairy tales being retold and combined into one fantastic story. The clever, creative storytelling gives us the beauty, the quirkiness, the humor, and some of the horror of these tales, but twists them up just right. These twists and combinations help to keep the reader anticipating what's to come since we don't know what Kontis had planned. I felt completely pulled into the tale and enjoyed that I didn't know what would happen next. There is the larger story of Sunday and Rumbolt, but several side stories that are interwoven and they all combine together quite well.

While there are numerous characters, the Woodcutter family being the most prominent, the stars of the story are Sunday and Rumbold. Their romance was very sweet and very adorable. Just the kind of romance a girl can get giddy about, dreaming of her own Prince Charming. The personalities of Sunday and Rumbolt are highly entertaining. While Sunday dreams and drifts about, she's also realistic because of her "magic" and the tragedies of her family's past. She's sweet and kind, but also strong and true to herself. Rumbolt has had a bit of a rough time recently, and due to some memory loss, we get to know him at the same time that he's getting to know himself. He's a bit of a mess due to his own magical misfortunes, but he also has a great tenacity and determination of character, and will do anything for Sunday and his kingdom. Sunday and Rumbolt are fantastic.

Overall, I found Enchanted to be a delightful fairy tale re-telling and re-imagining. The story combining, the imagination, the sweet romance, the intriguing characters, and the engaging tale, all made for a wonderful read. Or in my case, a wonderful listen.

Genre: Mature Young Adult Contemporary
(Contains: sexual references, some sex)

Synopsis:
When it comes to love there’s no such thing as conventional.

Everyone thinks Colton Neely is special.

Lilly Evans just thinks he’s fascinating.

Once friends when they were younger, their bond is cut short due to her accident prone nature and they go their separate ways. Years later, they meet again and Lilly learns that there is something special about the boy she once knew, but she has no idea what it all means. And she’s not sure if she’s ready to find out.

When he walks through the corridor of her school the first day of her senior year, she knows that it’s time to get to know the real Colton Neely. The more she learns, the deeper she falls.

Their friendship grows into love, even as Colton does not express it in words. But one decision threatens to break down the world that Lilly has tried so hard to integrate into and she must figure out if the relationship can survive if they are apart.
My Review:

Puddle Jumping is a very sweet, very sensitive, and very noble story. I really enjoyed the premise of a girl and a boy falling in love, but the twist is that the boy has Asperger's syndrome. The thought and care that went into this story is obvious. The author told a beautiful but honest story without sensationalizing or over-exaggerating it, taking us beyond just Lilly and Colton, and looking at the world as a whole and how much better we can be. It was simply a girl and a boy who loved each other. It was also not simple because of the obstacles they faced, the adjustments they made, the mistakes and miscommunications they took for granted. But then, if the love is strong, if the dedication and devotion is there, and the support of those around them lift them to reach beyond the easy, then once again we come to appreciate and love this simple and beautiful story of a boy and a girl falling in love.

I will say that though I dearly wanted to mark this as a new favorite read of mine, I had to take off a star due to the writing itself. I deeply love the concept, premise, and inspiration of this story. But there is a significant amount of "telling" and not enough "showing" for me. Conversations were frequently referred to, but I really wanted to read the actual dialogue. I wanted to read Colton's actual words, what things were said between them. Though we got this in small amounts, I feel the story would have been far richer if I could have gotten to know Colton more personally rather than Lilly just telling me how much she liked him. Because Colton was an amazing character that I loved, and I felt a little cheated that I didn't get that little bit more.

Regardless of my issues with the storytelling, I definitely recommend this beautiful, heartfelt story about two wonderful characters with a deep and unconditional love and a message to take to heart.

Synopsis:
Sometimes you just have to believe.

Finding her destiny nearly cost her everything. Kristia knows she can handle whatever The Fates throw at her next—including her long-awaited honeymoon with the God of Winter. But as things heat up between Kristia and Ull, a frost settles over Asgard. An unexpected death marks the beginning of the end, much earlier than anyone expected. Kristia’s barely begun to understand what she’s capable of, and controlling her powers seems completely out of her grasp. With her new family fighting for their lives, and Ull fighting for their future, Kristia has to make a devastating choice: preserve the life she loves, or protect the god she can’t live without?
My Review:

Finally the Honeymoon! I must say, I love Ull and Kristia. They are just so very sweet. And fun. And funny. And sexy in their very adorable way. All the build-up of their relationship was lovely and I caught myself grinning and sighing contentedly often during this book, particularly the first half. Just seeing Ull and Kristia let loose and be completely free with each was the best. I especially loved the new fun side of Ull we got to see. This story gave me all kinds of happy.

Besides the happy honeymooning, we still have the ever impending doom of battle on its way. Elfie himself takes persistent, annoying, crazy, evil guy to a new level. He's not toying around anymore. There are some great battle scenes here and I liked the various perspectives we're able to take on them. I was certainly biting my nails at one point as I flipped through the pages, nerves on high alert. I wanted a bit more, too, but was content with the tension and intensity of the scenes.

I love the Elsker Saga series. The combination of Norse mythology with the modern world, the beauty of finding your true love and soulmate, the sweet tenderness of friendship and romance, the intensity of impending battle and doom. All these things make this series very special and a journey I loved taking. The author even notes there will more to come with a new Norse crew, and I can't wait to see what comes next.

TRO Excerpt:
“What do you want to know?” Ull lowered his sunglasses lazily and eyed me with a look that made my insides burn.
“Well.” I paused. “Uh , . . What am I supposed to do if I’m attacked?”
“You mean if this happened?” Ull launched himself off the chaise, wrapping one arm around my waist and dragging me across the beach. He cradled me in his arms and landed in the froth where the ocean met the shore.
“See? I’m totally defenseless.” I gazed up at him, my back pressed firmly against the wet sand. He hovered, supporting his weight on his forearms.
“I am afraid you are.” Piercing blue eyes locked in on mine. Between the depth of his stare and the heat from his abs, I forgot everything else.
“Um . . .” I bit my bottom lip.
Ull tilted his head to one side, a small smile playing on his mouth. “Now what did you want to know?”
“I
A wave washed over us. The warm saltwater lapped up to my waist then retreated, leaving a film of sand over my legs.
“You were asking me how to defend yourself?” Dangit, it was hard to focus with Ull’s dripping body pressed against mine. Yes, I wanted whatever it was I’d asked about. Self-defense. Right. But there was something else I wanted more.
I bent my knee and twined my calf around Ull’s. I shifted my hips just an inch and stared into those endless eyes. They sparkled in the sunlight. My arms were trapped beneath his torso, so I turned my palms upward to touch the spot where his chest met his shoulders. It was so smooth, so firm, and so very, very warm.
My eyes never left his as I moved my thumb along the line of his shoulder, over his bicep, and down to the crook of his arm. I drew a slow circle inside his elbow and Ull blinked.
“Kristia,” he whispered.
“Yes?” I tried to reach up to stroke the stubble lining his square chin, but my arms were pinned.
“You are not trying to defend yourself.”
“So?” I raised my head and kissed his jaw. “Maybe I don’t feel like fighting you off.”
“Mmm.” Ull closed his eyes as I kissed my way up to his ear. “So if someone came after you, you would just let them do this?”
He swiftly rolled onto his back, forcing me on top of him. He shoved his fingers in my hair and tugged gently, pulling my head back. He kept the other hand just above the bottom of my bikini, firmly pressing my hips into his. I squirmed against the hold, trying to find a way out of his grip. Though I tactically had the upper hand, I couldn’t move.
“Well, I wouldn’t let just anyone do this.”
“I should hope not,” he growled softly. He raked his teeth along my throat and paused at the hollow of my neck. “Because if I ever caught wind of someone doing this to my girl, it would end very badly for them.” He ran his tongue along my collarbone. I shivered.
In a lightning-quick move, Ull flipped me onto my back and pinned my arms above my head with one hand. I gazed adoringly at the fierce assassin glowering over me. “And this. What would you do if someone did this to you?”
“Uh.” I blinked. If I told Ull what I really wanted to do right now, I’d turn every possible shade of crimson.
“Focus, Kristia.” Ull stared at me. “What would you do if you were trapped?”
“I . . . uh . . . I’d . . .” My cheeks felt hotter than a grizzly in a desert. “You seriously want me to fight you off?
“If you are so bent on going through with this little exercise, then yes. Give it your best shot. And then, I believe, you promised to pay me for the lesson.”
“Gladly.” I narrowed my eyes and wrenched my arm as hard as I could. It didn’t budge. I tried again but it was futile.
“You are outmaneuvered and I am twice your weight. Try something else,” Ull commanded.
I threw my shoulder into his chest and tried to roll to one side.
“You cannot out-force me. Look at the difference in our masses. Think tactically, Kristia. What can you do that will debilitate me?”
My eyes widened. “You don’t want me to
“I want you to find a way to get me off you. Do what you have to do.”
I closed my eyes and raised a knee to his groin. Ull groaned and rolled off me.
“I’m so sorry! You said to
He raised a hand and waved at me, turning away.
“I’m sorry,” I repeated.
“That was good.” He rolled back with a grimace. “But if someone is bent on capturing you, they will come back for more. And quickly. Your next step should be to run.”
“If you want I can get some ice for
“Run, darling.” It was a threat. “Now.”
I jumped to my feet and took off down the beach. I ran just shy of the shoreline, where I was less likely to be slowed down by soft sand. The water lapped at my heels as I built up speed, pushing off the balls of my feet. A warm breeze caressed my bare skin and every cell in my body buzzed as if someone had turned on a light switch. Movement came so easily now.
Something hot hit me from behind, and I felt Ull’s arms curl protectively around me as he tackled me. We landed just inside the surf again, and this time the wave crashed over our heads. I sputtered as the water covered my face, wishing I’d had time to hold my breath. The saltwater burned my nose.
Ull was on top of me again, and this time he wasn’t hovering. The full weight of his body pressed me into the sand. His legs were tangled up in mine, and his hands cradled the back of my head.
“You did not run fast enough, sweetheart.”

Tangled (Tangled, #1)
Teaser from kindle location 1855:

Now, I know some women have issues with their bodies. Maybe you've got a little extra junk in the trunk? Get over it. Doesn't matter.

Synopsis:

Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything - or anyone - derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.
