A Bachelor Brotherhood Novel
Never say never . . .
Romance isn't an option for Holly Greenwood. With her wedding planner career on the line she needs to stay focused, and that means pleasing her demanding boss, not getting distracted by her mind-alteringly hot neighbor . . .
Ex-Marine Kevin Vandemeer craves normalcy. Instead, he has a broken-down old house in need of a match and some gasoline, a meddling family, and the uncanny ability to attract the world's craziest women. At least that last one he can fix: he and his buddies have made a pact to swear off women, and this includes his sweetly sexy new neighbor.
After one hot night that looks a whole lot like a disaster in the light of day, Kevin and Holly are about to learn that true love doesn't play by the rules . . .
This was my first read from Denise Grover Swank, and it was great. This is the first book in a spin-off series from her Wedding Pact series, which I haven't read. But for me I had no problem reading this book without any prior knowledge of some of the side characters. This can easily be read as a standalone. But now that I've met the other bachelors of the "Bachelor Brotherhood," I'm definitely looking forward to their stories.
Kevin and Holly's story was great. It was a sweet romance with just enough angst and tension to make things interesting, but not too much to drive me crazy. It was a great escape with the anticipation of true love. Kevin and Holly may have individually given up on relationships, but becoming neighbors quickly threw a wrench into that plan. But one major obstacle stood in their way, making them have to choose between fighting for their chance at love or giving up before they even got started.
I loved Kevin and Holly as a couple. They had great banter, and I loved how comfortable they were with each other. They had great camaraderie and chemistry, as well as an obvious attraction. Holly was a bit of a runner, and I appreciated Kevin not giving up. They had several family members helping or hurting their chances. One in particular was a major pain. But despite certain irritating (or misunderstood) characters, these obstacles made the story that much more interesting. It was good to see them fight for what they wanted.
'Only You' was a sweet romance, not too hot-and-heavy, but not too fade-to-black. Kevin and Holly were a fantastic couple, and I loved how everything came together in the end. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
